A small talk with Duroyan Fertl on FB

Duroyan Fertl
The following is my conversation with Duroyan Fertl, a member of the Socialist Alliance. We're having a little talk about The Greens and Socialist Alliance, the left-wing parties in Australia.

Risma : Hi, I heard that the Greens has got one seat and the Independent's got four seats in the parliament. Is that right?

Duroyan : That is right - in the House of Representatives. Also, the Greens got 4 more seats in the Senate.

Risma : Can u tell me why the Greens finally could raise its votes, and how did they do the campaign before the election so that they could achieve the seats?

Duroyan : The main reasons the Greens had such high votes was people were disappointed with the Labor Party for not doing anything on climate change, and making their politics more right wing like the Liberals. For a long time, many left-wing Labor voters have been disappointed with Labor, but have not moved away from them, not even when voting. This time they did because the election campaign was so bad.

Risma : So bad? why was that so? and what plans will the Socialist Alliance do next?

Duroyan : Both parties avoided talking about climate change - or any real policy - and attacked refugees a lot. There was lots of focus on personalities, not politics.

Risma : Oh I c

Duroyan : Socialist Alliance will be running in state elections in Victoria (November) and New South Wales (December), but we will also keep doing what we always do - organise on the streets and in workplaces. The election result is very interesting and exciting, because of the big Green vote and having no major party winning. This means that lots of people are still thinking and talking about politics after the election is over. It is an opportunity to reach out more.

Risma : Great. I'm glad to hear that. I hope Socialist Alliance can also achieve the same success in the state elections. Thanks for sharing comrade :) we learn a lot from u

Duroyan : No worries. Your struggle is ours is yours. :) I think Socialist Alliance will achieve more votes in the state elections, but the best measure is how many people we can make active in the struggle.

Risma : I couldn't agree more. Here In Indonesia we are also attempting/ struggling for how to make people be involved and active in our struggle. But I think it needs a very long time and journey..

Duroyan : True. But it can also be a long journey that suddenly becomes very fast. Sometimes people only want to think about themselves and their family, then suddenly they are thinking about bigger politics. The contradictions of capitalism can be very surprising, as can the ability of people to want to do good. How are things in Indo presently?

Risma : We have some bad news like rising the basic needs, electricity hike, and now we are facing a trouble with Malaysia Government about border dispute. The media's trying to blow up the issue and we know that it's done in order to divert people’s attention from the real issue.

Duroyan : Playing the nationalism card as a distraction. Very predictable.

Risma : Something like that.

Duroyan : Clearly they have no interest in Keadilan Sosial bagi seluruh Rakyat Indonesia.

Risma : Wow, how amazing. U know the fifth Principle of Pancasila. :)

Duroyan : It's an important one to remember. :)

Risma : Yeah. Thanks brother, how should I call u? I'm Rismayanti, but just call me Risma.

Duroyan : Ok, Risma. People call me Duz, because they find it easier than Duroyan (which is pronounced like 'durian').

Risma : Ok Duz, chat more later, I gotta go..Say hello to comrades in Aussie. Keep Spirit and Fight! Thanks.

Duroyan : Thanks. :) Long live the struggle.
